We moved to Burlingame in 1997; like so many others, we were attracted by the great schools, charming downtown and beautiful trees, as well as Burlingame's proximity to Silicon Valley, San Francisco and SFO. I worked for 12 years as a US diplomat -- I served the nation in Syria, Hong Kong and Washington DC -- and then in venture capital. More recently, I founded TOTAL Impact Capital, an "impact investment" institution that finances companies that are trying to do good things and be profitable as well. Think clean energy, regenerative agriculture, water conservation, or helping Africa increase its food output.
My wife Marty and I have raised four wonderful children in Burlingame, enjoying our amazing schools and parks and sports programs along the way. We live near Mercy High School and treasure our tree-lined and safe streets and neighbors who look out for one another.
I was first elected in 2009, during the depth of the recession. Prior to serving on City Council, I was a Planning Commissioner from 2001 to 2009.
