Hi! I wanted you to know that I'm going to run for reelection this November.
It has been an honor and a joy to serve the people of Burlingame. I love our community and all its tree loving, quality of life striving, youth sporting, seniors strolling, cafe sitting, deeply caring diversity.
I ran for office in 2009 because our city finances were in free fall and I thought I had something to contribute. I am proud of the work the Council has done since then to significantly bolster reserves, restructure labor contracts, and generally right the ship. With your support, we have also made substantial investments in water infrastructure that now put us ahead of most cities in the Bay Area.
There are, however, four significant issues/projects that I want to see to completion. The wheels of government grind slower than I expected when I first talked about running in 2009 and thought I would be done by now. Those projects are:
(1) creating a substantial new park on the Bayside that will create beautiful open space for our residents and kids to walk, play and enjoy the bay;
(2) building affordable housing in our downtown core that will put 130 working families and senior citizens into beautiful apartments that they can afford;
(3) Redeveloping our historic Post Office and parking lot into a public square and surrounding residences, with ample underground parking, adding vitality to our downtown core; and
(4) Upgrading El Camino Real, with new sidewalks and a healthy, historic and safe tree scape. I helped spearhead a taskforce that comprises Caltrans and concerned citizens to seek collaborative solutions to make ECR safer without sacrificing what makes it so uniquely “Burlingame.”
As always, I welcome your thoughts and suggestions — please go to www.michaelbrownrigg.com. There you can also sign up to host a yard sign or offer an endorsement, or help with other aspects of the campaign, if you are so moved.
Thank you for all you do to contribute to this great city,
